Hi, my name is Stine (pronounced Steen), and I am excited to start working at the Mullum Road Eltham clinic from January 2022 as I complete my Master of Counselling.

My playful black Labrador Irma will be joining me in supporting clients of all ages. Irma and I have a particular interest in anxiety disorders, neurodiverse, twice exceptional, and gifted individuals, and we both like working with children, young people, as well as their families. We enjoy providing emotional and social support through a range of therapeutic approaches, including Play Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Ecotherapy, Animal Assisted Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Family Therapy.

I come to counselling with a teaching background and a PhD in political philosophy. I have published works on migrant experiences, social inclusion and cultural diversity. I have experience working with young people building resilience, increasing tolerance, fostering self-compassion, alleviating academic stress, and encouraging engagement and connection.

I believe that personal achievement and well-being grow when we can support diversity, encourage resourcefulness, critical and creative thinking, strengthen personal and social capability, and foster an ethical and intercultural understanding, as well as increase self- awareness. I like to work with clients on self-care, build on their strengths, and expand mental well-being strategies. I recognise that working with and providing support for the family unit can be integral to increased individual growth and well-being.

Irma and I can’t wait to get started. Until then, we will be running together, hanging out with Monroe the Cat, swimming at the beach, and going for walks in the forest. I will also enjoy horse riding, spending time with my family, and being creative. Irma will be doing what she is best at…she has a special interest in making friends with everyone she meets, fetching balls, stealing socks, and eating all the food she can get her paws on.

I want to respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people as the Traditional Owners of the Country on which I will be working. I pay my respect to elders past and present and I acknowledge and value the significance of the Wurrundjeri people’s history as essential to the unique character of this land. I am truly grateful to connect with this history and connect with the land on which I am on.
