Jess Farago
Psychologist
Jess is a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and a member of both the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc. (AAPi). She holds a Master of Professional Psychology Practice (MPPP; 5+1 Internship)and brings diverse experiences to her practice.
Jess is a late-diagnosed, twice-exceptional (2e) AuDHD psychologist (gifted, autistic, and ADHD) who is deeply compassionate and passionate about her work. Drawing from her own lived experience and the latest evidence-based research in line with the Neurodiversity Affirming Paradigm and the Social Model of Disability, Jess embraces her neurodivergent identity and uses it to support clients in understanding their own identity, whether they are neurodivergent or not. She works collaboratively with clients, focusing on their strengths and helping them navigate challenges in a way that fosters self-understanding, empowerment, and growth.
Before becoming a psychologist, Jess worked for several years as a disability support worker, assisting families with both physical and invisible disabilities and providing mental health support. She has also worked as an integration aide in school settings, supporting neurodivergent primary-aged children. During her postgraduate placement, Jess provided one-on-one play and talk therapy to children at a primary school.
Jess has experience working with clients presenting with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, work-related stress, relationship difficulties, grief, loss, and neurodivergence, including autism, ADHD, PDA (Pervasive Drive for Autonomy/Pathological Demand Avoidance), giftedness, and twice-exceptionality (2e).
She is passionate about advocacy and creating safe, inclusive spaces for all, including members of the LGBTIQA+ community. When supporting clients in educational settings, Jess collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure a nurturing, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and neuro-affirming approach.
As a neuro-affirming psychologist, Jess works within the social model of disability, focusing on the fit between a person and their environment rather than on “fixing” the individual. She strongly believes that people thrive when they are supported in exploring and embracing their identity. Her clinical interests include providing support and assessments for autism, ADHD, giftedness, and twice-exceptionality, as well as working with individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, and perfectionism.
Jess adopts a holistic, client-led approach, incorporating humour, curiosity, and warmth into her sessions. She is attentive to her clients’ sensory needs and strives to create a space where clients feel safe to express themselves authentically and comfortably.
In her personal life, Jess enjoys expressing herself through bright, colourful clothing, which brings her joy. She has a deep love for animals, especially her miniature schnauzers, Mavis and Albert, with whom she spends a lot of time walking and cuddling. Jess also enjoys reading, music, musical theatre, dinosaurs, history, cooking, and being out in nature.
Jess draws on a range of neuro-affirming, evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to each individual’s needs in her practice. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Mindfulness, Play Therapy, and elements of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
