Amy Malcolm
Psychologist
Amy is a Registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). She completed her training with a Master of Clinical Psychology from La Trobe University and holds a doctorate (PhD) in the field of clinical psychological science from Australian Catholic University.
Amy offers a warm, person-centred approach to therapy that is guided by her values of authenticity, compassion, non-judgement, collaboration and curiosity. Amy has a holistic approach to therapy that seeks to deeply understand and respect each person as an individual, and to support each person in accessing their own innate wisdom and strengths for moving toward wellbeing, healing, and personal growth.
Amy’s practice is trauma informed and neuro-affirming, and is informed by a range of evidence-based therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Amy also integrates trauma-based approaches, including parts work (Internal Family Systems), somatic techniques, and attachment-focused therapies into her practice. She is interested in further developing her skills and knowledge in trauma-focused therapies.
Amy’s previous experience has been diverse, providing her with opportunities to develop skills in a broad range of areas. This includes having worked at a private mental health unit, providing support and skills training to inpatients and outpatients seeking support for significant mental health challenges, and working in a public health service focused on providing family-based therapy for youth with eating disorders. Amy also has experience practicing in long-term private psychotherapy with adults experiencing a range of interpersonal and mental health challenges. Prior to gaining her registration as a psychologist, Amy worked as a PhD qualified academic researcher in the fields of body dysmorphic disorder and anorexia nervosa, and is still involved with research work in these areas.
In her spare time, Amy enjoys spending time with her dog Aurora, growing flowers and vegetables in her garden, practising yoga, and spending time outside in the sunshine.
Amy is hoping to train her beautiful white Swiss shepherd dog, Aurora, to join her in therapy sessions in the future.
